Term Definition
Concentric

The shortening or contracting of a muscle.

Distress

A stress that an individual cannot adapt to. A bad stress.

Eustress

A stress that the body can adapt to and become stronger because of. A good stress.

Extrinsic

The motivation that comes from outside of the performer.

Intrinsic

The motivation that comes from rewards inherent to a task or activity itself.

Osteopenia

A condition where bone mineral density is lower than normal. It is a precursor to osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis

A disease of bone that leads to an increased risk of fracture. In osteoporosis the bone mineral density (BMD) is reduced, bone microarchitecture is disrupted, and the amount and variety of non-collagenous proteins in bone is altered.

Progressive Overload

The gradual increase of stress placed upon the body during exercise training.
